I grew up in Nottingham, England, with a love of music from an early age. I absorbed everything: the pop on the radio and television; my dad’s love of country music and marching bands; the school headmaster’s love of classical composers and Simon and Garfunkel…
My first experience in making my own music was inspired by the post punk and electronic sounds of the late seventies that I found so liberating: It was just about getting into a room and making a noise really.
I left Nottingham in 1990 and moved to London. Shortly after that tindersticks were formed and we began our long life making much more than ‘just a noise’.
Together, we’ve made many albums, soundtracks and interesting side projects.
I also make my own albums and soundtracks. My music has been used in television, film and advertising.
